After a rain delay that lasted two hours and 45 minutes, Mahela Jayawardene and AB de Villiers finally met in the middle to start the most anticipated clash of Group C. The match was reduced to seven overs a side, with two overs of Powerplay in each innings.

Two bowlers can bowl a maximum of two overs each in what amounts to nothing more than a practice match. Both Sri Lanka and South Africa have already qualified for the Super Eight stages and the result of this match will have no bearing on who they play in that round. Sri Lanka will remain C1 and South Africa C2 irrespective of the outcome.

Jayawardene decided to bowl first, given the length of the match. He admitted that "both teams are not under pressure," which will give his side a chance to devise a strategy in curtailed matches. Sri Lanka made one change to the XI that beat Zimbabwe. Ajantha Mendis' side strain meant that he was replaced by Rangana Herath. Offspinner Akila Dananjaya will have to wait for a "proper T20 match," to make his debut.
South Africa also made one change and brought in Faf du Plessis for Robin Peterson to lengthen the batting line-up.

Finally South Africans manage to score 78 in seven overs(De Villiers-30, Amla-16). Watch out for Shri Lankans reply..
